Pre Postnatal Exercise Scope of Practice


Qualifications matter. Your scope of practice ensures that the services you deliver as an Fitness Alberta certified Group Exercise, Resistance, Aquatic Exercise Leader or Personal Fitness Trainer match your training. 

 

Pre Postnatal Exercise Scope of Practice

The Fitness Alberta Pre and Postnatal Exercise Leader is certified to:

  1. Design, modify and lead a safe pre and postnatal *session by providing effective and appropriate exercises to meet the stated workout objectives and needs of participants
  2. Lead pre and postnatal workouts based on Fitness Alberta standards and guidelines
  3. Lead participants that are apparently healthy, or cleared for physical activity as indicated by completion of an evidence-based pre-screening tool, i.e. Par-Q+, ePARmed-x
  4. Incorporate the use of appropriate equipment based on identified or implied needs of pre and postnatal participants
  5. Act as a fitness resource to inform participants about exercise options and recommendations before, during and after pregnancy
  6. Use Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating and World Health Organization (WHO) Global Recommendations on Physical Activity for Health
  7. Refer clients to appropriate health care providers when participants have questions or concerns outside this scope of work

 

*session is defined as a group exercise or individual personal training facilitated session, provided the leader has a current Fitness Alberta/AFLCA certification in group exercise or personal training
