Requirements and application process

Fitness Alberta Educators play an important role in the certification journey of new candidates. They offer Fitness Alberta certification courses to candidates, and they are active offering professional development at Fitness Alberta conferences and workshops. Join our team of certified Fitness Alberta Educators.

Here's what you need to apply:

  • you must have current Fitness Alberta certification, and have held your certification for a minimum of 2 years.  
  • Resumé including:

    • a one-page letter of intent telling us why you want to become a FAB Educator

    • professional fitness leadership experience and specific areas of concentration

    • continuing education and professional development you've attended

    • courses and workshops you've facilitated

    • formal education, University degree or College diploma, including transcripts

      • Degree or diploma in a relevant discipline is required to teach the Foundations in Physical Activity and Exercise course, e.g. Kinesiology, Personal Training 

    • Standard First Aid and/or Athletic Injuries Care and Prevention Course
  • Video (approximately 25 minutes) of you leading an exercise class in your certification area

    • please ensure participants are also visible in the recording

  • Video (maximum 15 minutes) demonstrating your facilitation skills in an adult education (i.e. classroom) situation.

    • please ensure your audience is visible in the recording

    • Video Requirements

    • Send a direct link to your video, e.g. zoom, or by email or include the link with your application.

  • OPTIONAL: Letter of support from a currently certified Fitness Alberta Educator emphasizing exceptional leadership skills relevant to being an educator. (The referee must have seen a minimum of one of your classes to comment on the candidate’s leadership skills and/or adult education facilitation skills)

All applications are reviewed by our selection committee. Acceptance is not guaranteed, and incomplete packages will not be reviewed.

Fitness Alberta Educator Scope of Practice

  • Facilitate Fitness Alberta courses in areas that the Fitness Alberta Educator is certified in.

  • Conduct practical exams and assessments for Fitness Alberta leaders in areas the Fitness Alberta educator is certified in.

  • Be a positive representative of Fitness Alberta 

  • Follow Fitness Leadership Canada Performance Standards, Fitness Alberta Performance standards, and the Fitness Alberta Code of Conduct.
