The Community Recreation and Culture Branch is looking for trainers that are personable, confident, knowledgeable and have a positive and
supportive attitude. We are seeking Personal Trainers that have a passion for providing members an amazing experience at the Recreation Centres
across the City to lead personal training and/or group fitness programs. If you are a fully qualified trainer and want to share your passion for health
and fitness with City of Edmonton patrons, then this is the position for you!
As a Personal Trainer, you will use your knowledge of human anatomy and exercise principles to:
● Provide private (1 on 1) personal training sessions to clients
● Provide semi-private training sessions (2-4 individuals) to clients
● Fitness orientation programs for adults and Youth In Action programs for youth 12-15
● Determine clients’ exercise needs through consultation with clients and assessments
● Develop, document and implement individualized exercise plans based on client’s goals, abilities and specific needs
● Educate and coach clients on how to exercise safely and effectively while providing encouragement and motivation
● Monitor, track and assess client progress and adapt programs as needed
● Demonstrate safety in all aspects of planning and delivery of programs, with an emphasis on preventing and managing injuries
● Contact clients within 48 hours of being assigned and build a positive and professional relationship
● Track and redeem personal training sessions
● Submit timesheets
● Perform other duties as required
Requirements and qualifications
Qualifications:
● Completed diploma in Personal Training, Physical Education, Kinesiology or Human Kinetics; or in-progress or a completed degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology or Human Kinetics
● Completed FAB – Certified Personal Fitness Trainer (CPFT) or equivalent
Assets:
● Additional Group Fitness/Exercise Certifications are considered an asset
Skills required for success:
● Experience in customer service and the ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner
● Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
● Demonstrated ability to conduct effective needs assessments and exercise prescription
● Interest and experience with exercise leadership and physical activity promotion
● Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies
● Embracing a Culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusion
Conditions of employment:
● Valid Intermediate First Aid and CPR Level C is a requirement of this position
● Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
● Ability to work evenings and weekends
● Candidates may be tested
