The North Edmonton Seniors Association is seeking an experienced and dynamic Group Fitness Instructor to lead engaging and effective fitness classes for our active older adult and senior members. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, approachable, and capable of delivering a variety of exercise classes tailored to individuals with varying fitness levels. The role involves providing safe, effective,
and enjoyable workout sessions that promote health, mobility, and well-being within a supportive community environment.
Responsibilities:
Lead a range of fitness classes for older adults, including chair-based exercises, low-impact aerobic routines, resistance training, circuit and interval training, suspension training, step aerobics, and mat-based activities.
Adapt exercises to meet the diverse needs of participants with varying levels of fitness and mobility, ensuring safety and progression in all classes.
Provide clear instructions and demonstrations, offering modifications when necessary to accommodate participants’ abilities.
Foster a positive and welcoming environment, promoting participant engagement and motivation.
Collaborate with other instructors and the facility’s management team to ensure a cohesive fitness program.
Manage class participation, provide feedback, and address any issues or concerns in a professional and courteous manner.

Position Details:
Contracted Role: This is a contracted position with class schedules determined seasonally. (NESA hosts four seasons of activities per year).
Weekly Hours: Instruction hours will range between two to four hours per week, with the possibility of additional hours through subbing for other instructors.
Class Duration: Classes are typically 45-60 minutes long, with instructors often teaching back-to-back sessions.
Days/Times: Opportunity for class offerings begin late May or early June depending on the candidate’s availability on Thursday afternoons from 12:00pm-1:00pm and 1:30pm-2:30pm. Additional opportunities for subbing, workshops, and/or other class offerings on other dates may also be possible.
Additional Opportunities: If the candidate holds certifications in personal fitness training, there may also be opportunities to join our independent fitness training team and offer one-on-one fitness services within the facility.
Requirements and qualifications
Required Certifications: Fitness Alberta Older Adult, Fitness Alberta Group Exercise, Fitness Alberta Certified Personal Fitness Trainer (CPFT), or equivalent certifications from Fitness Alberta or other recognized fitness bodies.
Preferred Additional Qualifications: Certifications from other Personal Training bodies, or a University Diploma/Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or Personal Fitness Training.
Required Skills and Experience:
o Proven experience teaching group fitness classes, ideally with older adults or seniors.
o Strong customer service and communication skills with the ability to work with diverse groups.
o Ability to adapt programs to varying fitness levels and needs, ensuring safe progression.
o Current certifications in Standard First Aid, CPR-Level C, and AED.
o Proof of liability insurance.
